It’s no secret that I am a HUGE fan of this show. I have recommended it in at least three of my monthly round-ups. For fellow fans – and those just interested – here are some little-known fun facts about the best show on air (an arguable fact :P).
- This Is Us was never meant to be a show. It originally began as a movie script way back in 2015. Writer, Dan Fogelman, later decided to change it into a TV series before bringing it to studio executives.
2. The original (movie) script had octuplets as the focus. Thankfully, it was changed to triplets. I don’t know if I could emotionally invest in eight Pearson siblings!
3. Other ideas for the title included, ’36’ and ‘The Story Of Us’.
4. Writer Dan Fogelman’s screenplays include, Pixar‘s Cars, Crazy, Stupid Love, Fred Claus, Bolt and Tangled; which was the first time he worked with Mandy Moore.
5. Sterling K Brown made history with his Golden Globe win. The actor, who plays adult Randall on the show, won Best Actor for his role on the show, becoming the first African-American man to ever win a Golden Globe in this category.
6. Although Mandy Moore plays the mum on the show, she is actually younger than the actors who play her adult children.
7. Sterling K Brown’s real life wife appears on three episodes of the show. She plays Yvette; the mother of a friend of young Randall.
8. And guess who Dan Fogelman’s wife plays on the show? Madison! I never would have guessed that.
9. Chrissy Metz, who plays adult Kate on the show, used to be an acting agent. What’s more, Hannah Zeilie, who plays teenage Kate, was one of her clients!
10. Chrissy Metz had 81 cents in her bank account when she auditioned for the show. Never give up on your dreams, guys!
11. Jack Pearson’s car on the show is Milo Ventimiglia’s car in real life. How perfect?
12. The show created extra security measures to make sure that details of Jack’s death didn’t leak. Apparently they had code names and everything!
13. The character of Kate is loosely based on Fogelman’s sister, who also struggles with her weight.
14. It takes the makeup department almost four hours to apply the prosthetic makeup that transforms Mandy Moore into older Rebecca.
15. Milo Ventimiglia played Sylvester Stallone’s son in Rocky Balboa, and is the reason Stallone guest starred on the show.
16. The rehab centre that Kevin was in during season two is actually Justin Hartley’s wedding venue…he’s divorced now…
17.This is a really surprising one: Chris Sullivan actually wore a fat suit for the first season of season one!
18. Milo Ventimiglia said that a lot of his inspiration for Jack comes from his own father. Wow, sounds like a terrific guy!
19.Milo is also known as the dad on set, and is often found playing with the younger cast members <3.
20. I cannot wait for new episodes!
