The CMT Music Awards took place in Nashville, Tennessee last night. The event – hosted by the CMT network – is a fan-voted awards show for country music videos and television performances.
Although there was no live audience, and the red carpet wasn’t flooded with paparazzi and celebrities, the CMT Music Awards still hosted a spectacular show.
The Highlights
Record-breaker

Carrie Underwood is unstoppable. Just a few months ago Carrie won multiple awards, performed a killer medley, and made history at the ACMAs, and as if all that wasn’t enough, she broke another record last night for winning the most CMT Music Awards, ever! The current queen of country took home two awards last night, bringing her overall CMT Music Award collection to 22. She must have one HUGE mantlepiece!
A Swift Return

Taylor Swift returned to the CMT stage (via webcam) to present the award for Breakthrough Artist of the Year. Taylor won this award 13 years ago, at the age of 17 (!!!) for her debut single, Tim McGraw, and now she has come around full circle. The star presented the award to 20-year-old newcomer Gabby Barrett for her song, I Hope.
Phenominal Performances

There was an array of show-stopping performances last night including one by Kelsea Ballerini and Halsey, who performed their song The Other Girl with a nod to the classic film, Coyote Ugly.
