Violence Only Leads To More Violence, Hate To More Hate: My Response To Recent News

“Darkness cannot drive out darkenss; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that” – Martin Luther King JR.

“…Love your neighbour as yourself…” – Mark 12:31 (Good News Bible)

As we all know, there’s been a lot of news recently about police brutality and racism; mainly in the US. I’ve been thinking a lot on this, and wanted to share my two pennies worth.

What has been happening is like something we would read about and see in our history textbooks, but that’s not the case, because racism isn’t history, it is still present.

This is insane; that is the only word I can really think of to describe it.

I simply can’t wrap my head around how someone could be judged – and even attacked – because of the colour of their skin. It is not okay. And it should not stand.

For a long, long time, I was ignorant to racism and its effects. This is because I was blessed enough to be born and raised in a very multi-cultrual part of London, so I was completely unaware of what white supremecy was or that it even existed, and I was not really aware that people could be judged for the colour of their skin, or where their family background originated. My parents tried telling me about it, but I couldn’t wrap my head around it. In fact, I still can’t. People are people. And this makes no sense.

In addition to this, no person has the right to take another person’s life. Ever. So, all these events that have been happening should never have happened in the first place, and should never happen again. Ever. This is where history should be made, this is where it should all end.

I know the world will never be perfect, and it’s easy to be disheartened, but it is up to us – as individuals and together – to make this world a better place a little bit at a time.

Show love, always. Love. Love. Love. Love.

With Love, Abi X
