Stolen Joy

“And no one will take away your joy” – John 16:22

“Comparison is the thief of joy” – Theodore Roosevelt

It’s hard to say that nothing can take away your joy, it may seem like it is not the truth. Your joy can be wrapped up in things that can be stolen; things that can be taken away from you. But sometimes, these  things can become your idols because we love them and place our joy in them, depending on them to bring us happiness.  But God does not want us to have idols in our lives, because He knows these things can be taken away from us and leave us broken. The only thing that our joy should be dependent on is God – the One who can never be taken away from us, the One who never changes, and the One who can bring us true joy.

We can also be the thief of our own joy because we compare our happiness to the happiness of others. Again, the comparison trap that I have written about in previous blogs. This can take away any joy we have, as we long to have what other people have. But be happy with the things you have for they have been given to you with and for a purpose. You’re more blessed than you know.

As Jesus says, “Do not store your treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy and thieves break in and steal, but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal” (Matthew 6:11). True joy and happiness lies in Him.

With Love, Abi X

PS. Happy New Year – I hope it’s one filled with joy 😉
